Thermal waters in Hungary that are good for your skin

Baths are great for health and beauty. Here are some places that are worth visiting if we want to protect the youth of our skin.

Hot water, saunas and steam baths cleanse the skin and help circulation, and those effects can be improved by the proper minerals. Mineral, salty and sulfur waters are great for skin problems, and these advantages can also be exploited if our skin is healthy and we would like to keep it that way.

While carbonated water improves blood circulation and makes the skin glowy and fresh, sulfur helps balancing out the production of oils. In addition, as well as salt, it cleanses, disinfects and reduces inflammation. The various minerals fill and make the skin feel velvety smooth.

Sárvár, Hajdúszoboszló and Eger are mostly famous for their salt waters, and at Zalakaros, Bükkszék and Egerszalók we can experience the effects of mineral waters. Water that's high in sulfur can be found at Harkány, Balf, Mezőkövesd, Hévíz or Bogács. In our compilation here we picked from places that have other trace elements and minerals that can have amazing effects for the skin.

Hévíz

Lake Hévíz is undoubtedly the leader in the list of beautifying waters, but that’s not the only thing why it’s worth visiting this unique natural creation. The thermal lake is not only the country's, but Europe’s largest medicinal hot water lake, and it was also formed in a peat bed, which is not a very common feature of thermal lakes. The health and skin-improving effects that can be exploited in baths and mud masks are thanks to these remnants deep in the water.

The decomposed plant parts contain organic and inorganic substances and the sulfur and radon that can be found in the lake originate primarily from these. Mud masks promote cell regeneration, improve their metabolism accelerating the depletion of toxics. Research has shown that it also has beneficial effects on collagen production, making it a popular ingredient in anti-wrinkle treatments. The effect is enhanced by the dissolved oxygen in the water, which is absorbed through the skin and which helps to protect the firmness of the skin.

Zalakaros

You can’t really complain about the spa selection in Zala county, we don’t even have to go far from here to find another source of medicinal water. We can take a truly skin renewing bath in the water of Zalakaros coming from more than 2,5 kilometers deep and rich in minerals. The water contains sulfur and carbonic acid in addition to sodium and potassium, so it doesn’t only cleanse, but also revitalizes the circulation. The manganese and silicic acid content is particularly important for beauty purposes. While the former prevents the spread of free radicals, the latter takes part in the regeneration of cells.

Egerszalók

The northeastern part of the country also doesn’t lack rejuvenating waters. At Egerszalók, at the foot of the Bükk mountains, you can complement the bathing experience with a variety of gorgeous attractions. One of those is the limestone deposition caused by the warm spring that runs off the hillside, and the soda hills left behind by the boiling thermal water.

As for the medicinal water itself, the most important ingredients found in the water are sulfur, salt and free carbonic acids here as well, but in addition, we can sink in the cocktail of about thirty trace elements. Among them, it is worth highlighting the already mentioned silicic acid and manganese, as well as the zinc that is essential to healthy skin.

Hajdúszoboszló

Hajdúszoboszló is not only the largest spa town in the Alföld region, but also the largest spa complex in Europe, so there is no shortage of experiences to choose from. The specialty of water is its bitumen-connected estrogen, which plays a major role in slowing the aging of skin. In addition zinc and copper with antioxidant effects help keeping youthful appearances. Thanks to the high salt content of the bath, it also cleanses and reflects the atmosphere of having a dive in the sea.
