Short description of the spa city

Celldömölk is a prominent tourist centre of Western Transdanubia, which is due to its thermal water, location, natural values and ecclesiastical memories.

At the foot of Ság Hill, the 750-year-old small town's history is colourful and exciting, its ancient, central core is the Benedictine abbey of Dömölk, where monks used to work busily and which was already a popular pilgrimage site in the 16th century.

The Ság Hill itself evokes ancient and special ages: the five million-year-old mountain used to be an active volcano for hundreds of thousands of years, the remains of which are the twin truncated cones, an ornament of Kemenesalja, and the crater of bazal mining, which is a tourist attraction. Among the rocks there are ornithological and geological nature trails, and you can get acquainted with the history of the formation of the mountain through the route.

The information dissemination in the vicinity of the Ság Hill does not end there: the Vulcano House in Kemenes Vulcano Park, Ság-hegy Museum, the special Vulcano Path and Rock Park, which will uniquely present visitors the volcanoes, their emergence, operation and history. Beside the volcanoes of the earth, in a separate room you can find many interesting things about our solar system as well, and the deepening of knowledge is supported by interactive tools that will be enjoyed by both the small and the big ones. With a spaceship simulator, you can also study the volcanoes of the Moon, the Jupiter and the Mars!

Do you want something more sporty? The area is well suited for trekking, hiking, cycling and horse riding, but only 14 kilometers from here, in Ostffyasszonyfa is the 4740-meter long Pannónia ring course, which is suitable for motorcycles, go karts and car racing and is open all year round.

At the end of the day, if you do not sit behind the wheel, taste the local wines: Ság Hill is part of the Somló Historical Wine Region, the vines were cultivated in the Roman times already, Italian Riesling, Sauvignon and Chardonnay are also among the famous wines of the region.

Celldömölk's reputation has already reached Hollywood. The huge crater of Ság Hill served as a venue for the film version of Eragon - The Legend of Dragons, in which John Malkovich was also involved.
