Everything you need to know about massages

We're probably not completely out of line if we say that almost 100 percent of people like to be massaged. But does everybody know that there are certain rules that you should keep in mind before a relaxing massage?

Before anybody thinks we want to come up with rules for the the evening’s candlelight massage, we can reassure you – we really do not. In that situation a glass of relaxing wine could even be recommended. At the same time, if we decide to turn to a specialist with a particular problem, avoid drinking alcohol before your appointment and keep the appropriate hygiene rules. So if you can, shower before the massage, or you could visit a sauna so you can relax the muscles as much as possible so that the active ingredients absorb easier.

If possible, do not go to your appointment with a full stomach because that burdens the body a lot. You should avoid massages during the first three months of pregnancy, as well as on the first two days of the menstrual period, since at these times the body is already burdened, if that is aggravated by a massage, that can easily lead to serious inflammation.

If we feel sick, we have the flu and we have fever, it’s better to reschedule our session.

In the event of severe heart disease or if we have a pacemaker, massages are prohibited, as they may disturb the device, which can lead to life-threatening situations.

The risk of thrombosis should also be closely monitored, since a person who has a tendency to have it can be triggered by a massage where the blood clots on the arteries get released, which can cause death too.

We should avoid massages in case we have osteoporosis, because of the increased risk of fractures.

Massages are strictly forbidden for cancer patients too because massaging may lead to further metastases, since lymph glands and lymphatic pathways can help the cancer cells to spread quicker.

It is important to mention that massages are prohibited for people who have severe mental problems as they may be dangerous to everyone involved.

Despite all of these, it is a fact that massages are refreshing and, in some cases, perfectly complement the medication, not to mention their soothing, relieving, relaxing and stress-reducing effects. But it's worth considering the things mentioned above before calling a masseuse to get an appointment.
